Review Course Using Quality Matters Guidelines

With a peer and/or an instructional designer, use the Quality Matters Rubric to determine the level to which your course meets quality standards. QM is intended to be a peer review process that fosters ongoing improvement. Regardless of how well we design our courses the first time, the QM process allows us to constantly improve our work through an informed revision process.

Gather and Develop Data

As your work through the process of creating and teaching the course, eCampus recommends that faculty members collect data about the process through reflective practice. Additionally, we recommend gathering student feedback through survey instruments, assessments, and formal University evaluation processes.

Analyze Data

Analyzing the information gathered through self-reflection, student surveys, assessment performance measures, peer review, and eCampus staff consultation allows faculty members to identify course elements that were successful in promoting a quality online learning environment. These data can also help you determine areas in which you will want to revise the course before you teach it again.

During this phase, a faculty member will:

  • Review the overall course using the QM Rubric
  • Gather data
  • Analyze data to make decisions regarding revisions to the course
  • Work with eCampus staff to prioritize and plan the revisions prior to the next offering of the course

During this phase, the instructional design team will:

  • Provide feedback to faculty
  • Assist in survey development and implementation
  • Assist in data analysis
  • Work with faculty members to prioritize and plan the revisions prior to the next offering of the course

During this phase, Quality Matters has standards that specifically apply to the following:

  • Assessment and Measurement (3.1-3.5)
